TPMS valves & sensors

TPMS valves and sensors, supplied and programmed in-house.

If a tyre pressure warning light has come on, the sensor inside the wheel is usually the reason. We stock, fit and programme both TPMS valves and full sensors for almost all makes and models — mobile at your home or work, or in our Blythe Bridge garage. Nothing to pay when you book — payment is taken on completion.

What TPMS is, and why your car has it.

A Tyre Pressure Monitoring System watches the pressure in each tyre and warns you on the dashboard when one drops. It has been fitted to new cars sold in the UK and Europe since late 2014, because under-inflated tyres are one of the most common causes of blow-outs, uneven wear and wasted fuel.

Direct systemsA battery-powered sensor sits inside each wheel and radios the real pressure to the car. Most cars from 2014 onwards use this type.
Indirect systemsNo sensors in the wheels — the car works out a soft tyre from wheel speeds, and needs resetting after a tyre change.
Why it mattersA tyre can lose a lot of pressure before it looks flat. Catching it early is the difference between a repairable puncture and a ruined tyre.
The MOT ruleOn cars first used from 1 January 2012, a TPMS light showing a fault is an MOT failure — it is not something to live with.

How TPMS sensors fail.

They are consumable parts living in a hostile place — inside a wheel, through salt, kerbs and heat. These are the failures we see most.

Flat batteryThe most common one. The battery is sealed into the sensor body and cannot be changed, so the sensor is replaced as a unit.
Corroded stemsAlloy valve stems seize and corrode with road salt, especially where a steel cap has been screwed onto an aluminium stem.
Damage during fittingA sensor sits right where the tyre bead passes. Rushed fitting snaps stems and cracks bodies, which is why we work around them carefully.
Kerbs and potholesA hard impact that damages a wheel often takes the sensor with it, even when the tyre survives.
Lost pairingSwap to winter wheels or a second-hand set and the car needs the new sensor IDs writing to it before the light goes out.
Tired service partsSeals, nuts, cores and caps are meant to be renewed each time a tyre comes off. Left alone, they weep air slowly.

Battery life, and what we do about it.

A TPMS sensor runs on a sealed lithium cell that typically lasts five to ten years, depending on mileage and how much the car is used. Once it goes, the only fix is a new sensor — so on older cars we will tell you honestly if the rest are likely to follow.

We diagnose firstA scan tool reads every sensor, so you are not paying to replace a part that still works
Supply and fitProgrammable sensors covering almost all makes and models, cloned or coded to your car
Service kitsNew seals, nuts and cores whenever a tyre comes off a sensor-equipped wheel
What it costsEvery tyre price includes a new rubber valve; TPMS parts are specialist and carry a small additional charge, quoted before we start

Warning light on? Let's find out why.

Bring it to Blythe Bridge or have us come to you. We will read the sensors, tell you which one has gone, and quote before any work starts.
