How to find your tyre size

Every tyre has its size printed on the sidewall. Here's how to read it in ten seconds — and why we always ask for it alongside your reg.

Width

The tyre's width in millimetres, measured sidewall to sidewall.

Profile

Sidewall height as a percentage of the width — here, 55% of 205mm.

R16

Rim

The wheel diameter in inches. "R" means radial construction — nearly all modern tyres.

91V

Load & speed

How much weight the tyre can carry (91 = 615kg) and its maximum rated speed (V = 149mph).

Why isn't my reg enough?

A registration lookup tells us your make and model — but many vehicles leave the factory with more than one approved tyre size, depending on trim level and wheel option. Two identical-looking cars can be on completely different tyres.

That's why we always work from the size printed on the tyre itself. It takes ten seconds to check, and it guarantees we arrive with the right tyre first time.

Where to look

  • On the tyre sidewall — the most reliable place. Check the tyre that actually needs replacing; fronts and rears can differ.
  • Driver's door pillar sticker — lists the factory sizes and pressures, but may show several options.
